As more and more companies get used to host career live streams on CareerFairy, we wanted to create a short document to provide insights on what to expect and how to prepare for your upcoming event on our platform. If you are about to host a career live stream and want to know how to get ready, you are in the right place!

First things first

Before we start with the details, I wanted to personally thank you for deciding to begin your journey into career streaming.

The reason myself and Thomas started working on CareerFairy was to give the next generation of students a complete and authentic view into the reality of their job market, allowing them to make more informed career choices that puts their happiness first.

By hosting a career live stream, you are not only giving your company’s employer brand a major boost, you are also helping graduates truly understand whether or not the roles that you offer match their personal abilities and expectations. Organise a successful test with your co-hosts

One of the essential preparation steps for your event is the technical check with all the co-hosts who will take part in your live stream.

The goal is to ensure that all the co-hosts can connect smoothly, can broadcast their audio/video effectively and that, ultimately, all participants can see and hear each other well in the streaming room. Furthermore, you want to make sure that any sharing activity you want to perform such as screen sharing or presentation upload function well.

Follow the following steps to do a successful technical check:

Get a link to a streaming test room.
Decide on a time slot to perform the test run with all co-hosts.
Share the link with all the co-hosts who will take part in the live stream.
Run the test on the day and time of your scheduled check.

Get a link to a streaming test room

To test access to the streaming platform, you can either use the actual streaming links of your CareerFairy event or get a test room link. To create a test room, just visit ${color}#00d2aa and follow the instructions. You can copy a streaming link to share will all co-hosts for the test by clicking on the Invite additional streamers button.

Sharing a video on CareerFairy

It is simpler than you thought!

If you want to share a video during your live stream on CareerFairy, this article may contain some useful information for you to do this successfully on the day of your event. In any case, please test the video sharing before your live stream to ensure that all technical requirements are met.

Let us introduce a few options you have for video sharing:

Share a video through YouTube:

YouTube is the premier video sharing platform in the world. If the video you want to share is available on YouTube. Please use the “Share video” in your in-stream sharing options. This will prompt you to enter the video link into the dialog to start sharing the video. Once you start sharing, all co-hosts and viewers will see the same video. All actions you perform on the video (play/pause, move on the timeline,…) will be mirrored for all viewers. This is the simplest and preferred option for video sharing, which we always recommend if the video in question is available on YouTube.

Share a video through Screen Sharing:

If your video is not available on YouTube but either on a different online player or as a local file, you can share it directly via Screen Sharing. To do this effectively while ensuring good video playback quality for you and all other participants, follow this process:

How to retrieve the SuccessFactors credentials

This guide will help you get the credentials of your SuccessFactors ATS system.

Step 1: Find your SAP SuccessFactors API Server URL

1) To find your API Server URL, go to this link.

2) In the listed API Server URLs, search for the environment that matches your subdomain. For example, if your domain was https://salesdemo4.successfactors.com, search for salesdemo4.

3) Copy the entire URL. In our above example this would be: apisalesdemo4.successfactors.com/

4) Go back to the CareerFairy platform and in the ATS integration page initialise the synchronisation. Select SuccessFactors as the desired ATS system to integrate, and enter your SAP SuccessFactors API Server URL into the dialog as shown below

How to use the CareerFairy Streaming App

The CareerFairy streaming platform is a simple and intuitive app that will look familiar to most users who have ever interacted with a videoconferencing software. However, even if we do use analogies with videoconferencing apps such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Skype, don’t forget that during the event, you will not see your audience (unless any participants use the hand raise feature, we’ll get to that later).

Get connected and select your microphone and camera

When initially opening the streaming app, an initial process will run which will attempt to establish a connection with the streaming server. Once the connection is established, you will be requested to select your camera and microphone. Don’t forget to make sure that you authorise careerfairy.io to access your camera and microphone if it is the first time that you use the app. In the camera/microphone dialog, make sure that the correct camera has been preselected by checking the preview video and making sure that the right microphone is in use. Make sure that your selected microphone detects sound by checking whether the green dot indicator moves as you speak.

If everything looks good, press the Join as Streamer button.

Technical Requirements to Use CareerFairy

In this article, we will go over the fundamentals of technical requirements for event hosting.

Compatible Browsers

Your attendees will be able to join your events on all major browsers including Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera.

| As a presenter, we strongly recommend you to use Google Chrome ( always the latest version if possible). However, it is also possible to use Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari 12.1+, and Microsoft Edge 79+.

| We really encourage you to use Chrome as a presenter though. Indeed, Chrome assures that the quality of the stream that you send out stays stable thanks to a technology called "Simulcast". It ensures overall stability to carry out your session, without any resolution or connectivity issues.

CareerFairy will detect if you're not using a supported browser like Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Opera. You will be presented with screen bellow

|| You must use a desktop/laptop computer to share your webcam and screen. The same goes for anyone that you invite as a speaker to share their screen, webcam, or audio.
